Hypoallergenic lotions – What Are They?
Hypoallergenic is a term created by advertisers, using the Greek prefix hypo, which means "less than normal" or "slightly". It has a long history, being first used in 1953. It was used to portray cosmetics and textiles products that were presented as causing less allergic reactions. While the term is not used in scientific or medical definitions, it is used frequently and can be referred in most standard English dictionaries. Despite the efforts of the cosmetic industry that has campaigned for years to set up an industry standard for using the term, no public authority issues certification confirming or denying an item as hypoallergenic.
Lotions help a person to maintain the skin, the largest human organ, in healthy an attractive state. These lotions act only on the epidermal or top layer of the skin but they can cause painful and disturbing reactions in some individuals. Also the skin is very permeable to the ingredients found in lotions. Most lotions are produced through the process of emulsifying oil in water and adding additional substances top provide color, scent and more importantly stability and nutrients to the skin. It is these ingredients that make the skin burn or cause us to display allergic reactions.
Hypoallergenic lotions are typically ones that have less or no harmful fragrances, colorants and other chemical agents. When people are not using hypoallergenic products, they might experience the face peeling breaking the skin. Rashes, skin burn etc.
Hypoallergenic lotions cover a wide range of users. Men and women, teenagers, mature people, even those who are in to their retirements, can apply it. Products are made to use on the face or the body. The best way to recognize lotions that are safe for you is to read the list of ingredients, as there is no certificate. The ingredients should be as natural as possible and should be from the Food and Drug authority’s most safe list.
Their core function is to preserve healthy skin. They will neutralize the free radicals found in cells in to nontoxic substances. This allows the lotions to reduce the aging process in skins and stop wrinkles, dried and cracked skin, blemished skin, and pimples. The lotions support in regeneration of aging skin. Hypoallergenic lotions normally include some vitamins and amino acids that are found in the skin and are needed to be supplemented to maintain a good skin texture and toning. They also keep the skin from hydrating.
The hypoallergenic lotions can be applied as you would apply any other lotion. You can apply it to the skin using your fingertips or with the aid of cotton cloth or gauze. You can easily remove it using lukewarm water or a muslin cloth. The lack of hypo allergic substances reduce any harmful effect on the eye, but still it is recommended that direct contact between the eye and the lotion are avoided. The usage is also similar to other lotions or creams. They can be used once or twice daily, or after an outing to remove make up. However frequent usage should be avoided and may be done solely under medical guidance.
